Final music video

Above is our final music video that we have finally got edited in the week we had left. Originally it was a whole different concept, but it wasnt fast enough at all, and the storyline wasnt really right for the pace and genre of the music. Once we had fully re-shooted the whole new video, we edited parts of it in sections as certain ideas popped in to our heads so we just made them parts and eventually got it all together. It firstly came together but wasnt fast enough, and then we had to make it alot quicker again. We had to do this more than once, in order to make it up to pace with the song. We used final cut pro in order to edit the whole vieo, using the cut tool as our main focus which allowed you to crop shots to the size you wanted. We also added fades to some shots which allowed us to change from one shot to another more fluently. As there is some parts that are really quick, we made the video very compact and almost instant cuts to give the effect that we wanted. This is shown in the video at 1:41. This part is personally my favourite part of the video, as its the strongest part of the music video, and works really well with the guitar in the background. We had the props in the whole video, to allow it to target the right audience, in our case predominantly males between 17-30. Our main sort of style that we used throughout the video was to ju8mo from shot to shot. This makes it look a lot quicker and for us, was perfect as the song itself is very up beat and quick. I feel that this video nis a lot better, with it being the much faster and the whole concept being performance based. The cuts are sharper,a nd flow alot better. We changed the costumes slightly which helps as we look more towards the genre, targeting the right audience further more. We also added in a logo of NME. this was done so that it hit the right target audience further more, and also made it look professional. To do this, we made it an PNG and dragged it onto final cut, and dragged it across the whole length of the film. this means it stays on there the whole time the songs as if its on TV.

magazine advert - analysis - basement jaxx

I decided to choose a slightly different type of advert here using one that is promoting a house/electro music. The album names is called 'rooty', which is clearly shown in the centre of the ad. Basement jaxx is written very brightly and used a mix range of colours, making it clearly stand out. All the key information is written in different types of font, making you look at each specific bit individually. You can clearly see the release date which is the 25 June. Another key point is that it relates from both the album cover and the advert. This means that it would be clearly recognisable. The actual theme of the advert is unusual, in the way that the picture doesn't relate to anything in particular. The colour scheme changes all over with it being white, red black and a mixed palette on the writing. The most important thing is that it draws your attention and is visually very attractive. The only way i think the image relates to the genre, is that house is really funky and fun, with a lot of beats, so the advert shows this with it being vibrant and fun.

magazine advertv - analysis - dizzee rascal

Maths and English ~ Dizzee Rascal

Dizzee rascals magazine advert is a very short but very effective. Its all really clear, with the background being bright pink. This Carry's on from his previous album tongue and cheek, which has a similar design. Dizzee rascal is situated in the bottom right, and is standing very strong and bold. This is connoting that he is exactly how he wants to be, and is his own style. The title is very clear, and is the biggest thing on the advert, as well as the album name. It works really as both texts are slightly different, and are in opposite colours, so stand out against each other. The date isn't entirely clear which doesn't help it at all as this is an advert that is meant to promote his album. It has a quote from a external source, which helps sell the album, as other sources are saying its good. The target audience is clear i think, as the colour is vibrant, and would reflect a young audience. Along with this, Dizzee rascal posture is one that young adults/teenagers would look similar to, so this would help get that across to the specific market. To add to this, he is wearing, baggy trousers, with a hoodie and trainers, which many young teenagers would relate to in that urban environment. It represents dizzee rascal very well, and gives the functions of n advert very well as well as adding good conventions, being similar what he would look like in his videos. Hopefully i can get these important points in my magazine advert.

magazine advert - analysis 1

Here i will be analysing one of three adverts to help me in making my own magazing advert at the end. Coldplay, who are a very known band have made a very effective advert here, with there being lots of information and having a solid image in the middle. It shows a clear represntation of their album, cover as it reflects a similar design to it. In relation to the functions, its very clear, showing who the band is, what their album is called and when its coming out. The image clearly shows the band members in coldplay, however it doesnt have a clear connection with the video or the settings so its not stereotypical in redflextion of the conventions. The advert is recognisable so people would be able to go out and buy it, kn owing exactly what it looks like. It doesnt give a easy view of who the target audience will be, apart from the fans that follow the band.

functions and conventions of an advert

Functions and conventions of music magazine adverts
While making our magazine advert we feel it is important to consider the functions and conventions of them and will do this by analysing them. First we discussed what they were. This will help us realise the key points when coming to our advert. It will make sure that we have the specific information thats needed with the conventions, and hopefully appeal to our target audience for our genre.
Functions are:
 • To Promote the artist
 • To sell the song
 • To be eyecatching- visually striking
Conventions are:
 • Song/Album title
 • Visual links to videos- Intertextuality
 • Reviews (Newspaper, Music press, Celebrities/DJ's- Trend Setters)
 • Condensed information on content
 • Release date
 • Artist name
 • Where is it available to purchase (HMV,Amazon)
 • Record label logo

Inside covers

Inside cover 1

Inside cover 2

Above is the two inside covers for our Digipack. We made them nice and simple images, that just got across the same style as the front and back covers. We still wanted the lights that we had in the from and back to flow through, so we put one t=that we took, that was a tester to see if the idea would work. This made a really effective line of light that would look simple but interesting at the same time. The Inside cover 1 was used as it shows us in the same tunnel as the advert but captures the feet instead of the body. This is different as were all really close to the camera, so it makes an immediate impact. All 4 together i think make a really effective digipack.

front and back of digipack

Front of Digipack

Back of Digipack

Above is the front and back of our digipack for the ancillary task. We took over 200 photos in different locations, seeing weather or not they looked good and what worked well. After taking photos in one location under a tunnel, the group kept thinking of new ideas so more and more photos were taken. We bought along some props in case we wanted to use them in the photo. As you can see before this post, we had a 3-4 photos that we picked out to use for editing in the digipack. This photo was chosen to edit, as there was a lot of originality to it and looked really effective with the light being dragged across the page. This was done with the camera set to a mode where more light is let in to the lens, making the actually shot to take around 5 seconds before capturing the image. This means that the movement of the light gets captured during these seconds. The front cd cover had the most light in it, making it look really effective against the dark background, so we chose this as the final image. We wanted to keep the same stlye throughout so we kept the back the same, in the way the light goes across the image, but this time we just had the instruments and props there. This worked really well as it gives you both side to the band with themselves and the things they play their music with. We also thought that the triangle at the front left makes the photo a whole lot better. It makes it look foreshortened, and draws all the objects together. I personally think this makes the whole imageWhen editing the image of the front and back cd cover, we made it look a bit clearer through the sharpen toll on adobe photoshop. We also adjusted the light of the photo. This was done to make the background darker, however keeping the faded image of the tree on the right, so it creates a better image. We used strokes on the image that touches up areas that photoshop may think are blurred at all. We kept both the moons that you can see in each image as this adds a good little touch to the photo and draws your attention to this. The overall setting that was chosen was because the title of the album cover is called tourist history, so taking the photo in a town, means we are trying to relate it to the original album cover giving it a bit more edge to it.

Logos we used

Above is the logos that we used in any of the coursework. The glassnote records logo was used in the magazine advert. This was because they are the label that two door cinema club are signed with, so it made our advert look more professional. It also helped target the right audience as people can see that the band are signed with them, so will draw the indie fans towards the advert. The nme logos were used in both the magazine advert and the final music video. The 'NME' logo for the advert was used as they promote two door cinema club, and this is helping the conventions, meaning people will realise who they are. The 'NMEtv' logo was used in the video, as it represents that its being played on nme's tv music program. It makes the video look more professional, and helps represent the genre of the indie band.

Magazine Advert

Here i have uploaded our magazine advert which me and my group all chose as we felt this would appeal the most as an avert image. The image itself is very good, as the framing is well spread out, with us in three different positions allowing there to be lots of different writing to be added in. We used adobe photoshop to help edit the photograph, by making it look slightly darker and adding in an additional light, so that it gets brighter the closer the lights get. we made sure the band name was the boldest, as this is the most important thing in the advert, which is shown at the top of the magazine. I think that this advert shows all the key details that is needed to be shown in the advert. We put both front and back of the cd covers to help promote us as a band. We added the promoters name which is NME, and put glassnote logo's on it as they are the record company of two door cinema club. The last thing we added was the website address, stating that the album can be down loaded on a certain date. The actual setting is really crucial as well. Again using the urban environment it helps show the genre of the band, and help target the right audience.

conventions of a digipack

After looking at cd covers and seeing what is on them, i decideed to see what is exspected to be on a digipack. These include codes and conventions of a digipak and what I would need to include to make a professional and realistic representation. I looked at the existing market for digipaks, seeing what would be included, such as photographs, band information etc. I also noted that the majority of digipaks are created for special or limited edition disks and DVD's of gigs/concerts.

Conventions That must be included in a Digipak :
 • Visuals are key to the production - Includes images of the artist/band, shots from concerts, instruments, etc.
 • Band/ artist name and album title, making the brand easily identified. Can be included along the spine and on main cover.
 • List of songs included, or if for a DVD scene selection.
 • Basic information about the artist/band - background information, type of music, etc.
 • Reviews from newspapers - Good reviews are often printed on the back cover to encourage sales and marketing.

picking 3 we liked

After taking over 200 photos for are digipack, we needed to cut down to at least three final possible outcomes. We looked at these three photos and came to a conclusion that this would be the best one. These are ones that we wanted to use for the front cover of our digipack. We chose the first one as this gave the best impression of the indie genre. It also has the best framing, and the colours of the cars stretched across the page with the dark night really looks effective. As you can see the original photo you can see how e will edit it when we use it for the front cover.

digipack's we firstly looked at

Above is two cd front covers that I initially looked at as good starting point to use as a cd cover. The reasons behind these two were because the actually image firstly looked good. I also like how the people in the images are laid out. They both are very different with the kooks being really small in the corner and noah and the whjale covering the whole canvas. The bottom one has been taken with the back three members burred out while the front right person is clear. I think this resembles the lead singer of the band, something that could be useful when taking ours. The kooks cover is slightly different with the image being alot darker and having much more space. All the memebers are blurred out slightly, but it creates a very original, relaxed cd cover that is good to look at when making our digipack.

Locations for new video

Locations
Above is a presentation of the different locations we went to film. we decided as a group that these locations would be best to film at because we had originally used similar scenes for our cd cover, and it also related best for our storyboards. We used the areas around windsor leisure centre which are urban and relate well to the target audience, which is for predominantly males between the ages of 17-30. The reasons we chose the urban environment was to make the band look original and allow it to look as if they are a small band that love their music. This is shown through the 4 different locations that are the riverside, tunnel, motorway and side street.

props, costume and casting

Above is a presentation about the props, costume and casting. We needed to wear the right costume as we need to hit the right target audience in order for it to look realistic. The props were used to hit the indie genre, and this was shown with the electric guitars and the amps. We decided as a group that we should be involved in the music video, as the band is made of three members and all play the guitar so we thought that us doing this would draw the right audience. We also wanted to make the settings/locations to be urban and original, helping create the stereotypical indie style.

Risk Assesment

Risk assessment

Above is the risk assesment that me and my group wrote out in order to see what sort of risks could occur when filming in each shot. Althought there wasnt actually any accidents, this allowed us to see what could happen and how to prevent it.

Target Audience

Two Door Cinema Club targets an audience of Alternative, Indie, Electropop music enthusiasts. As the music does have a dance, electro feel to it, this means that it would also be appealing to people who are into mainstream and dance. This makes the single quite dynamic and appealing to a range of listeners. After researching into the Target audience, me and my group thought looking at the sources that promote the band would help us identify the main audience that they aim there music at. NME is one of two door cinema club's promoters. The magazines target audience is mainly aimed at males into indie/rock music between the ages of 17-30. Their statistics also say that the majority of the readers are 25 years of age with 27% of their readers being female. Using this information from external sources it gives you a very good idea of what people they are trying to target. Along with this information, we can approximate that the majority of Two Door Cinema Club's fans follow the same trend. They have also stated that they are currently touring around the country performing in clubs and bars, showing us that they are targeting the teenage, young adult segment. Based on these facts me and my group are looking to base our video on predominantly males between the age of 17-30. If i was to choose the psychographics then i would pick explorer and reformers. I say this because explorers are people that want to try new things, that want to discover. They are early adopters to new products, in which case respond to brands with new sensations. Reformers refer to people that would be socially aware, and like explorers, do not attract to new brands just because there 'new'. They are also creative, in which case would be interested in things that cause a spring in surprise. The way that myself and my group will help aim our video at the relevant audience will be to wear the appropriate and stereotypical clothing in our video. This would be things such as skinny jeans, cardigans, leather jackets and shirts. Alongside this we will film the video using typical things that are seen in in die/rock videos such as performance based videos, with the band playing. To help this look more authentic, we will use props such as electric guitars and amps. Using these things, our video will be aimed more and more at the appropriate audience, that as a group is aiming at predominantly males between the ages of 17-30.

plans with the music video

After we had filmed the first draft, we realised that our framing, storyline and editing were not good enough to get us the grade we wanted. Adding to this, the cuts wernt fast enough to go with the pace of the music. Because of this, we decided as a group that we would re shoot the whole video, and change the whole idea. We wanted to make it more perfromance based as the song itself is very quick and has alot of guitar in it. This would help make it look realistic and more professional. Our idea came after we had done our photo shoot for the ancillary task of making a digi-pack. We saw that we used very good framing in the shots. The settings were also very good, and we were coming up with very good ideas that looked alot sharper. Due to this our aim was to use these similar settings to film, with the same sort of framing whilst playing as a band.

first draft of music video

Here is are first draft of our music video. There is a few things that we need to tweek, but we are all very happy with the first outcome. We tried making it simple enough to film but also creative so it wasnt boring. I think thatved this, but using the three split screens all together showing the group playing as one. The breif story is of three people that love their music and just want to play the guitar. So you see how their lives are evolved around the guitar, about the music itself rather than fame. This is trying to reflect how 'two door cinema club' are with their music.

shooting Schedule

Shot location
View more documents from cmccauley7

Above is my shot location sheet. It explains where we went, what time , who was in the shot and what we used. This is to help us understand what we need to do on the day, and lets us see what exact shot were shooting. I had to do it on word, so the layout is a little bit harder to get right than a table. However it explains the key things that i need to know in each shot.

storyboards

Storyboards

Above is our storyboards that we drew out to give us an initial overview of the shots we wanted to use in our video. We done it very brief as we had the idea we wanted moulded in our heads, so the storyboards were done just to lay out the exact order and shots that we were going to use. This helped us see if we wanted to add any shots or to change the order in case we thought of any other ideas. Its good as you can see your general layout, as some shots may not look right. After we drew out the initial idea we had to change a couple of shots, as they didnt seem to look right in cutting from one to the other. So this process was a big help.

undercover martyn - actual video

Here i have uploaded the actual video of two door cinemaclub's song undercover martyn. Its a very unusual video, with them being in the air playing there instruments. Its a very performanced based video, which i think is to help show how they are more into the music side of being a band rather than promoting themselfes for fame. Our group however, are trying to create a slightly different video that involves both performance and narrative. I think this would make the video more enjoyable to watch, as it shows a story but also shows that tthere a band who love music.

Anicillary Task - Planning

Above is the plan for our Ancillary task. We had to use this to make our ancillary task succesful. It includes what track we were going to do, what artist, and the genre we were looking at. It mentions a short profile of the band that notes 'An indie/rock band formed in 2007, that consists of 3 members' etc. We also had to give breif ideas of what we were looking to do in our digipack, and the same with our magazine advert. Its an overall look at what our original ideas were for the ancillary task.

Contacting the band

Asking for permission on twitter
View more documents from cmccauley7

Above is an image from a social networking site called twitter. I was trying to contact one of the members of the band, in order to ask if i can use their song 'undercover martyn'. I tried contacting Alex Trimble who is lead guitarist and backing vocals. I did this by messaging him through twitter tagging his, mine, lukes and rics name in order to show who wants to use it.

textual analysis - two door cinema club - what you know

How has the band two door cinema club used the medium of music to promote their single 'what you know'?

Two door cinema club are an indie rock band from northeren ireland. They became a group in 2007 and released there debut album in 2010. They are sighned to two record labels called Kitsun'e Music and Glassnote Records. Being a new group theve made there selves well known and have played at big festivals such as Reading and Leeds. There music is becoming much more known with more and more people becoming fans and listening to the indie band. Im looking into there song called 'what you know' that came 64th in the charts. The song 'what you know' postioned two door cinema club through the medium of music video as a band who can make a wide range of good songs.

The relationship between the lyrics and the visuals, is that they are illistrated and amplified, and you can see this at the start of the video where the lead singer says 'realise its right before your eyes' and the visual of this is in the video as hes staring at a girl in front of him, resembling to the lyrics. This helps create a better flow and understanding of what the song is about creating a visual of the lyric itself.

There is also a relationship between the music and the visuals. At the start of the song, when the beat starts kicking in there are people moving to the beat of the song. Once the main drum starts to come in a perosn in the video also starts hitting a row of drums in rythm to how it is in the song. This shows a connection between the two. Throughout the song, all three band memebers are playing guitars in the video which is showing how they are serious about there music and care more about the actual song than how the video is. Everyone in tyhe video is in sync with the song so it helps represent the ryhtm and the beat to 'what you know'. In parts of the song, the lead singer has close ups of him when he is singing which helps represent his role and also gives it good flow.

There are many shots of the band throughout the whole song. This is because they are trying to promote the song as well as the band. They also do this by making it more genuine, with who they are rather than conceentrating on the video. The clothes they wear are stereotypical of a indie rock band in the wsy its smart, but with skinny jeans to giver them that pop look on stage. They are all using guitars in the video as well, which helps show they are all good with instruments again promoting the band.

The video is very performanced based but has some narrative to it in the way the lyrics to relate to the video and helps show whats happening in the video. However i think its using this stlye to help promote them positively as it looks more at them thereselves. It brings them acroos as them being more interested in the music itself, instead of the video. Using this method helps create a good image on the band itself.

In conclusion i think that two door cinema club are represented positively and this is trying to acheive a good image of them. More and more people are starting to like them, due to the quality of their songs. The song 'what you know' has relationships between both lyrics and visuals as well as music and visuals, helping present the video in a positive way towards the song itself and the overall image of the band.

textual analysis - Kings of Leon - Pyro

Kings of leon - ‘Pyro’

Kings of Leon are an American rock band that formed in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee 1999.
The band is composed of brothers Anthony Caleb Followill, Ivan Nathan Followill and Michael Jared Followill, with their cousin Cameron Matthew Followill. In the video ‘Pyro’ I will be looking at all aspects that make up the film, and In detail analyse each concept of all the areas. At the start of the video, it begins with a man walking towards the entrance of the bar, the lighting is dim and the bar sign is very tacky which immediately gives you some from of setting and the kind of society that its in. He then helps a low life out just before entering the bar. This suggest that he’s a courteous person and straight away draws the viewers attention to him. While he is walking towards the door the music is building up, but is very calm and no real beats have kicked in yet.

Just as he walks through the bar doors the music kicks in, this works really well as it links both with the video as well as picking up pace in the music. Linking them both together like this helps the balance and flow of the video in my opinion. The video itself is very dull, lacking colour which relates to the song. This is very useful in getting the lyrics across in a way that resembles back and forth to the song.

As soon as your in the bar there is a big pan of the camera, that carry’s on for some time showing you around the bar, at different characters and types of people. You notice as the camera is panning that the characters are all lower down in society, alcoholics that have seen better days. It helps set the seen, and is very stereotypical of the type of bar and structure that is originally set earlier in the video. Its a very significant part of the video while its panning, as you get a good sense of what the place is like and the atmosphere within it. They have left this shot as one whole cut which is very unusual, as it goes on for longer than 30 seconds. In doing so, it creates a mellow mood that links with the song and helps set a scene for when the chorus kicks in. As the man starts to walk through, you see him walk off while it pans away to other people around the room. Before he walks off the screen you notice a man and a girl arguing at the bar. This just gets into the shot, which could suggest that it could come important later on.

As it carry’s on going around the bar there is a local band that are performing in the bar. These are the artists of Kings on Leon, but are playing not as them selves but as a casual, local band in the local pub. You don’t see them a lot at all which shows that there more current and urban, wearing rough clothes, as if there to be not known. They don’t put themselves out there in there videos, which suggests that they love there music and it shows this in that scene. It creates a good contrast between them being in their own video, but acting out as other people.

It then goes back onto the man who initially entered the bar. He walks up to the man who was arguing at the start with the women. Its very interesting as you see a glimpse of this at the start, so its very good in the way it links both parts back together connecting the whole video itself. Here it starts to get a bit more violent, and eventually the cut changes for the first time. It then hit’s the chorus, where the violence fully begins. Both the chorus and the fight kick in at the same time. And while this happens its all in slow motion. There is a contrapuntal sound, with the violence and the calm music. Both elements contrast against each other that makes it a very clever scene, and kick starts both parts to the song off. The slow motion carry’s on for a while, where it goes around the room showing the reactions of the other people around the bar. It helps the video flow with the song and works really well, following the contrast as they carry on fighting and the music carry’s on more emotionally and calmly.

As the song gets further into it the man ends up beat up in the floor and four men are standing around him. The chorus is louder now, and almost sums up the man on the floor, as it seems depressing. The line say’s ’I,I don’t wanna be holding on’ this helps the audience understand what’s happening, and you think that he has no hope. It then moves on and the song goes into a set lyric that’s repeated. While this is getting repeated the man starts floating in the air. I almost think this resembles him eventually breaking through with him getting lifted out of the situation. The repeated line is ‘want your love, can you feel it?’ As he rises, so do lots of other people around the bar. But some are not, which I think represent them showing their love to the person getting lifted. However the man rising is contrasting against this as he hasn’t got anyone that’s in the bar who‘s with him, which is why I think the lyric is being visually shown on the video the way it is. While the music is calmly dissolving away, he rises more to a bright light that’s above them. This signifies him getting to where he wants to and eventually the music cuts out and so does the light, linking both together.

After analysing the video I have noticed that its very obvious that the editing links the music, and this is relevant because it allows the song to relate to the video. I also found that though out the song everything is in coordination with the beats so that it all works together. I also think that the actually video is very interesting to watch, as there’s a lot happening but at the same time everything relates so it flows really well. Its very narrative based video, however there is a slight performance based side to it with the band playing as a local pub in the video. I video like this is very relevant to the indie rock genre that they are part of.

Textual Analysis - Jamie T - Sticks and Stones

Textual Analysis - Jamie T - Sticks and stones

Jamie t is singer/songwriter, who was born in Wimbledon, south London. He is 25 years of age he first started his career in 2005. His first few songs were ‘Sheila’ and ‘if you got the money’. The performing band are known as ‘the Pacemakers’ when he performs live. On the 29th June 2009, Jamie released his single ‘Sticks and Stones’. It reached 15th in the uk charts, and also reached 14th in the Triple J hottest 100, which is one of the most popular voting countdowns in the world.

The video starts off with Jamie t and another person dressed a clown. This firstly set the scene, and some of the characters that are going to appear in the video. There is also mist in the background, behind them. When the guitar strum kicks in for the first and second time, the mist goes up, then pauses and spreads, in tempo with the guitar. This helps the flow of the video link with the song itself. It then cuts to a tracking shot, that’s unsteady, and in black and white. The editing is fairly quick and makes the video seem quick. I think its done in black and white to link it to the lyrics. It says ‘as soon as I see the dust settle’. This is represented by the everything being black and white in the video at this part. It then cuts to Jamie t in what looks like a station. This is visually showing the lyrics, as it kicks in saying ‘I took a train’ The camera shot looks as if its in the train and he’s running after it. It goes along with the pace of the song, which makes it look really effective. Along with this, he’s at Wimbledon train station where he was born. Making the video where he lives shows he loves the music more, rather than making a video that has no relation to the music. It then cuts back to him and the clown. He’s sitting down singing the song, which shows that this song is performance based in a way that he sings all the lyrics, Its good as its different because its not performance in him playing the guitar. The first few opening parts of the video have unsteady cuts. This helps represent him figure in the industry, and shows how he is as a person, everything not being straight and perfect. The song is also like this, very messy and a general laugh to make.

Just before a minute of the song, it cuts to Jamie T in town with all the his mates, some of them being part of ‘the pacemakers’. This relates to the lyrics yet again, as he say’s soon as I see the dust settle, out in the town trying to find trouble’. This verse goes on with it saying, ‘hope I don’t miss the train. Ill be stuck in Hampton Wick’. The video is of him in Hampton wick at the train station. This then cuts back to the group of boys, all throwing stuff at the camera, which cracks. The whole way through the song so far, the lyrics match the images your seeing on screen. This helps make both of them flow, as they relate to each other. You get a sense that its meant to be made for the night out that he is having in the video.

The next scene is of him and another person at someone’s flat, where he says he feels most comfortable. The editing in this scene is being fast forwarded in sections, of him walking towards the camera. It cuts back and forth to him sitting down with some of his mates. It jump cuts when he walks towards the camera, and is also sped up. This is a good effect that helps represent them being youngsters and making trouble, and also relates back to the lyrics. I lighting so far looks all original, and untouched as if to show how his music, and how it is unique and original.

The next chorus cuts to all the places that they have filmed. In the flat, town, alley and garden. In the town with his mates, there all throwing beer and bricks at the camera, casing ‘trouble’. In this part it cuts to them in the same place at night and at day. In the night scene, they have red smoke in the background, resembling them causing trouble in town with the shot being seen through the cracks and holes through the camera. He talks about ‘boys like us’ in the chorus, which I guess represents how there’s not a lot else to do than cause trouble as there no one else to ’fight’. It represents his song perfectly set in London, explaining what him and his mates do.

Expressing a night out, the words make this whole song appealing to the audience. The instruments aren’t playing that much, with the bass playing one chord in verse 3. It’s the way he raps his verses that make this song how it is. As if he is producing a separate beat while singing. Having the band there adds to the song, and compliments the chant that Jamie has throughout the song.

The whole song is a representation of him and his mates, and what they do. The lyrics are shown perfectly through the images in the video, and the editing just makes it all flow well together. The whole song has been thrown together I think to help show a wild night out, and is demonstrated none the less. it’s a very fun and uplifting song that fit’s the image of himself and ’the pacemakers’. The editing definitely links the music, with all the lyricas matching whats on the video. Its hard to say weather this is a performance based or narrative based. Although hes not playing the instruments, neither is the band, he still sings the lyrics through out the whole song. On the other hand it could be narrative based, as its representing hima nd his mates on a night out in London. It tells a story, that is in the lyrics but also shows him singing it along side this. Therefore you could say that this video is both performance and narrative based.

analyse album cover - Chase and Status - No more idols

Chase and status are an electronic music production duo from London. It consists of Saul Milton and Will Kennard. MC Rage & Andy Gangadeen also makes up the live band when performing. They formed in 2003 where they produced various tracks with record labels such as renegade hardware. There debut album 'more than a lot' came 49th in the charts in 2008. However in 2009 it got best album for the drum and bass awards. Their latest album 'no more idols' was released 28th January 2011. It represents their major full-length release since 'more than a lot', where they signed a massive deal with jay z's roc nation label. There album cover (image shown) is very straightforward and simple but gives an immediate impact. They have used one dominant image that covers the whole cd cover. The picture is focused on the dog, with the background out of focus, which again makes it stand out a lot clearer. The bulldog is in black and white, and i think this represents the title of the album as such a strong 'dog' that doesn’t need idols. Being black and white, the yellow writing stands out perfectly, making it so clear of who they are when looking at the cover. Its almost as if the dogs looking down on the writing, although this may be coincidence It still creates a very good overall cd cover that many would buy.

CD cover analyse - Two door cinema club - Tourist History

My second choice for a Cd cover is the artist that my group are actually looking into. Im looking at this because it will be good to see the nway they have made the cd cover, in comparison to the cover we will make. Its very unusual to what some artists have domne, but it works very well. They have kept it consistant keeping the 'o's and 'c's in the name all the same. Theve been really creative with the way its laid out as well. They have put an image of the cat coming i n from the bottom right hand corner. The 'o's circle the mainobjects on the cat, which are the eyes and main part of the crown. I dont think it has any relevance to the name of the album but it looks really effective, and works well as a CD cover. The writing is also very clear which helps as you vcamn clearly see the bands name, due to it being clear white and fairly bold. When making our CD cover, we will be looking to look for somethink that is creative like this one, but is also unique.

album cover- first go on photoshop

above is my cd cover which we had to make in a lesson, to help start us of on using photoshop! We were given a random song title and album title as well as a random image to then go produce something with it. with my image i was given a man sitting in a bottle. however as my album title was called awake from shere boredom i thought that making the image all abstract and imaginative it would go with the name. I did this by changing it to a sketch and then looking through the various options it gave you. With the writing all you had to was add effects to them and create anything you wanted with them such as outer glow which i used a lot. i found photoshop really interesting to use, with it allowing you to do so much with it. Im looking forward to using it more later on in the project.

Here is where me and ric used photoshop for the first time, to see if we could make an advert for practise. Ric done most of the cutiing out, but i tried editing the colour, although i didnt know what i was doing, it still aloud me to get a rough overwiew of what to do. I think that it shows you the conventions that is needed to be in a magazine advert, with dates that will be holding competitions and new guns out. The image however is a bit ridged on the outline where its been cut, but it shows you the rough idea of how an advert can look. The black and white background works really well against the image centred in the middle. And the gun being pointed'almost at the viewer' works really well. As you can see, you can also add in images that will boost the representation of the theme. Thats done with the bullseye logo added in. This is coloured in red to contrast aginst the black background on the right. Overall it gives me a good initial starting point that i can try and improve on.

introduction!

welcome to my A2 media project. In last years AS course i produced a film called flashback with myself, ric and luke. however for this years A2 project me and ricardo are going to be making a music video where we are hoping to get the best grade possible. We need to pick a song of our choice to use in our music video, and also need one to help us with what type of genre were looking at. we've looked at a variety of bands, and their videos to see what type of ideas they use in them. were looking at a pop funk type of song along the lines of 'two door cinema club'.
